Grey (Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian #1) | Review

My rating: ❤❤ of 5!

Grey

Let me start by saying, that at first, I was relieved that Christian doesn’t have an inner goddess. However, my relieved state of mind was short lived. Actually, it only lasted until Christian started referring to his cock like a being he wasn’t connected to, but instead owned. The first few times I noticed it I was chuckling to myself, however, as it continued I kind of grew mortified. Now, I’m not a guy so I can’t say for certain it wouldn’t happen. But I can’t imagine ever thinking like that about any of my female bits. I mean, they’re a part of me, so I think my boyfriend would think I’d finally lost the plot if I said: “honey, let’s go to McDonalds, my boobs want some fries and a coffee”.

However, I think my biggest disappointment was the hefty price tag this book came with. E.L. James said she wrote this POV swap, because her fans wanted to have Christian’s POV on the whole thing. I actually really like the idea behind that, it intrigued me to find out how this big business mogul operated from within. My excitement only lasted until the book was available in the Google Store for about £8! Considering that Ms James earned a pretty penny on the original trilogy and the movies, I cannot fathom that she has the audacity to say it’s for her readers, but then sells it at that price. To me that’s almost extortion when you consider, that you’re not getting a new story. Just a new narrator.

So, even though E.L. James was the author who introduced me to the world of smut, I’m now over her and for those reasons, I can’t in good faith give this book more than two hearts.

Will I be reading the next book? Yes. Definitely. I always have a hard time abandoning books and series, so if there’s a third book, I have to read it. If she writes an “Christian and Anastasia 10 years later”, to top up her earnings, I’m sure I’d be able to avoid that one without feeling I’m missing out. But for now, I’m stuck to finishing what I started.

  1. I love the idea of a POV swap, it’s super interesting. I don’t think I’d have the patience to read it though because I’ve already read the story, if you know what I mean. I’ve never read any of the series (and only watched the third movie because my friends forced me to join them) but I really enjoyed reading this review, thanks for sharing!

  2. I just walked by the Edward and Bella swap at Target, and now this? Yikes. Admittedly read all of them. Anything that generates that kind of buzz must be read. And the movies? Bachelorette party with champagne and popcorn? Pretty fun. I think I’ll pass on Christian tho. My lady parts concur…
