Fifty Shades Darker (Fifty Shades #2) | Review

My rating: ❤❤❤❤  of 5!

Fifty Shades Darker

What I liked the most about this book is the way the characters change and develops throughout. Christian grows leap and bounds in this book, so he is by far taking the lead. He transforms from immobile, stubborn and negative to flexible, compromising and positive. Personally, I enjoyed that this book reveals more about Christian, which adds more depth to this tortured persona.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about Anastasia. She took a stand in book one, which had me hoping that she too, would undergo some character development. But I honestly don’t think so does! She’s still the same very insecure little girl, with serious confidence issues. While Christian is bending over backwards for her, she keeps him on her toes because she is insecure. So much like Bella, the mountain sized chip on her shoulder becomes really unattractive and, I almost hoped that Christian would just leave her and move on.
The plot is not the greatest, but admittedly my strong dislike of Anastasia might cloud my judgement more than I’m realising. But it did feel like the villain came out of nowhere.

However, despite all of the above I still found myself enjoying the book. When I originally read these books, it was the first smut I ever read, and I wasn’t disappointed. I was intrigued. So, no matter how bad the writing is, no matter how annoying Anastasia can be, there’s a special place in my heart for these books, that introduced me to the world of smut, which is why I give the book four hearts.
