Mid-Year Freak Out Tag 2018

Mid year reading challenge

I wasn’t technically tagged by anyone to do this, but I’ve seen it float around the blogsphere and really wanted to do it. So, when I saw that Amy @ A Court of Crowns and Quills had tagged “YOU” I decided to go for it.

131 books, no wonder I keep forgetting things I’ve read this year!

Best Book You’ve Read This Year?

An obvious choice would be THE SONG OF ACHILLES, I know I pretty much always mention this book, but it is one of my all time favourite reads! However, as it was a re-read I think I’ll go with one of the books I hadn’t read before and choose Just Be You by M.E. Parker. I really can’t recommend this beautiful and steamy gay romance enough.

Just Be You01

Best Sequel You’ve Read in 2018?

I think I’ll have to say Roadie (Rock-Hard Beautiful #2)

When I read the first book in C.M. Stunich’s Rock-Hard Beautiful trilogy, I was having the hardest time deciding whether or not I even liked the book. But I am really bad at DNF’ing books because even when I don’t like them, my curiosity won’t allow me to just stop reading. I still need to know how it turns out. Anyway, Roadie was the turning book for me, in this series. That’s when I fell in love with the series.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To?

That would have to be Circe!

Unfortunately, my current budget won’t allow me to spend the £13 on the paperback version of the book. Though, I think that’s just what I keep telling myself is the reason because truthfully, I could just go to the library and borrow it. So, to be completely honest I think a little part of me is afraid to read it. SoA was, as mentioned above, one of my all time favourite reads, so I think a part of me is a little afraid this one won’t live up to the hype. What can I say, I’m a book loving scaredy-cat.

Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half Of The Year?

I have about 7 different releases that has me counting down to the release date. But the most inticipated is Two Kingdoms by Kristy Cunning

Two Kingdoms

It has been over six months since the latest book in this series was released. However, that’s not why I’ve been so impatient. In the end of the previous book Kristy wrote a note saying, that this book was already finished so it would be released “soon”. Kristy Cunning is a pen name for “C.M. Owens”, she chose the pen to not confuse fans of her normal Romance books, with this leap into Reverse Harem. Anyway, so apparently C.M. had some problems with one of her Romance books, where the characters didn’t behave. But as she wanted that particular book released first, fans of the Dark Side suffered.

LOL yes I know I’m being dramatic, but I waited for such a long time that the remaining 8 days for the release seems like forever.

Personal note to authors: Be careful what you promise your readers 😉

Biggest Disappointment?

That would be Pestilence by Kim Faulks. I never put the review on my blog, but you can read it on Goodreads if you want.

I love myths and legends and actually, The Four Horsemen have always been one of my favourite biblical stories, so I was really looking forward to this one. But it was left feeling confused, let down, disappointed and honestly, really annoyed. The annoyance mostly came from the fact that at 50% it got kind of interesting, so I kicked my boyfriend out, made a cup of coffee and settled on the sofa with my cats. Then at 60% the story ended, and the remaining 40% was chapters from another of Kim’s books. I don’t know if that qualifies as book stuffing, but seriously…. 40% is a lot! So yeah, can’t recommend and will not be reading it again, ever.

Biggest Surprise?

That would have to be The Deadly Captive: The Trilogy by Bianca Sommerland. This is so not my normal choice of read, it’s usually something I stay away from. Torture, maiming and psychological mind games doesn’t rate high on my list of leisure reads. And yet, this trilogy surprised me!

Favorite New To You Or Debut Author?

Arh… that’s a touch one, because I’ve discovered quite a few new authors in 2018. I think my top 3 looks like this: L.J. Swallow, M.E. Parker & Joely Sue Burkhart. Technically, I did discover L.J. Swallow in 2017, but whatever.

Newest Fictional Crush?

Ugh… can I only choose one? Hmm… either Marshall from Just Be You. I love his calm and his way of dealing. Or Dex from Held by Magic.

Newest Favorite Character?

Well, there’s so many amazing characters, main and secondary alike. But I think my newest favourite female leads are ghost girl aka Paca and Syv. They’re kick-ass, sassy and so far from a Mary Sue, which in itself is enough to love them!

Book That Made You Cry?

Book That Made You Happy?

Well the two above left me feeling happy, does that count? Otherwise, I really don’t know. I don’t think I often feel happy after reading a book. Sure, I can fall in love with the characters, the plot and the author. Yes, books entertain me, make me laugh and I’m happy when I’m reading, but I think its reaching too far to say, that any of the books really make me happy.

Favorite Book-To-Film Adaptation?

I usually don’t like the books o’mine that they make into a movie. I’m a book snob like that. But it always depends which way it’s done. Like with the Vampire Academy, I hadn’t read the books (still haven’t), so the film was alright. If I’d read the books, I’d probably hate the movie lol.

Favorite Post You Have Done This Year?

Since my blog have only existed for like 1.5 months, most of my post are reviews. But I think my favourite, short as it is, was my first blog mile stone because that meant that there are people out there that like what I write, and that feels all sorts of awesome.

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year?

I really don’t know, sorry.

What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of the Year?

I definitely need to read Circe! Other than that, I tend to stay on top of new releases and then just go wherever recommendations and pop ups take me.

  1. Omg I totally wanted to be tagged in this and I have NO idea how I only JUST now noticed you tagged me, whoops!! I’m gonna do my late post right now! Also 131 books?! ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY ONE!! Thank fantastic keep it up!! And I thought I read a lot so far this year… ha. I got The Song of Achilles this year as a blind date book, it’s not really up my alley for what I would choose for myself but the reviews have been insanely positive that I feel like I’d be cheating myself if I didn’t give it a shot.

    1. Better late than never, eh 😛 I can’t wait to see your answers and hey, we’re still kind of half way through (okay I know it was a month ago, but that’s nothing). Yeah, 146 books now lol. It does help that I’ve been studying for some months now, which have left me with so much time to read 🙂 Have you read SoA then? Or is it still on the list?

  2. I love these posts so much! Honestly one of the best times of the year! And… YOU’VE READ SOME BOOKS, LOVE! But I’m so happy I met you, and I love your blog! I hope you’re having a happy summer solace! 💛xx

  3. Hehe I hope Circe ends up living up for you! I absolutely understand the fear of a book not living up to expectations, but I think you’ll be fine as long as you know not to go in expecting a romance like SoA; that was a mistake of mine. 😉

Also, I have Just Be You on my TBR (thanks to your rec), and same here; I don’t like my books to be adapted into movies either. 😛 Great answers, and congrats on the 130 books! Dang, you’re really knocking ’em out!

    1. Yeah, I’ve been told before to basically just forget that SoA is written by the same author. I get it though, she set the bar high, and I WILL be getting around to Circe, eventually 😀

I’m so glad you’re going to give Just be You a go, I hope I haven’t oversold it lol. And yes, books made into movies are usually an epic let down. Just look at Percy Jackson 😦 actually, I better not get started on that haha.

      1. I adored Circe, but I understood where people might not have enjoyed it as much as SoA. It’s not a crowd-pleaser (I mean, we all love romances, and this wasn’t the focus of Circe), so that’s the thing I think. 😉 I really hope you enjoy it though!

And I WILL give Just Be You a go (sounds fantastic)! And lol, I agree with PJ…epic fail at its finest. 😂

      2. I swear that first scene in PJ, when Zeus and Poseidon PUNCH EACH OTHER… I was like “DUDES YOU’RE GODS… IMMORTAL BEINGS WITH POWER, why do you resort to PUNCHING EACH OTHER?”

Yeah, I didn’t like it. It entertained me, but compared to the book it wasn’t even worthy of being linked together. HA! very long way of saying “yes, PJ sucked” 😀

So, Circe is more like the sad and violent Greek tragedies?

      3. lol I forget the details of the movie, but I just laughed thinking of your description of it. XD Also, I don’t think Circe is that dark per se, but more lonely slash introspective I guess? I mean, the girl is sitting there on an island for a few hundred years, so the book gets pretty slow and contemplative at times. (btw sorry if I spoiled the book too much for you 😛 But yeah, Circe is lonely, and she’s searching for her place in the world. That’s the gist of this book I feel. 😉 )

  4. Roadie has such a great cover!! I’m going to have to check that one out, for sure! And 131 books already?? How do you find the time? I’m so behind on filling in the books I’ve read on Goodreads! I should really take the time to do that!

    1. I was quite shocked myself, I have no idea how I did it. But I guess it helps that my nose is pretty much always stuck in a book, whether it’s for my course or leisure reading 😀 I like the Roadie cover too, and I can only recommend this trilogy.
