My rating: ❤❤❤ of 5!
So this is the first book I read by Jaymin Eve and Jane Washington! I’ve heard about other books they’ve each written, but for some reason they’ve never spoken to me. However, when Trickery randomly popped into my Amazon suggestion list I had to give it a go, and I’m not sorry I did.
Will(a) Knight and her BFF/sister Emmy are the two Dwellers chosen to serve the Sols at Blesswood. The Sols are magically gifted people with the potential of becoming gods when they die. This honour is something that Emmy has wanted and worked for forever, however, Willa who kind of just stumbles through life, is not even close to prepared. Willa may be powerless, but she has an infinity for clumsiness, injuries and/or embarrassment – which leads her into the lives of five powerful Sols; the Abcurse brothers:
❤ Coen has the gift of Pain
❤ Rome has the gift of Strength
❤ Siret has the gift of Trickery
❤ Yael has the gift of Persuasion
❤ Aros has the gift of Seduction
I’m going to be completely honest here, I did struggle A LOT with this book! The ways of measure and relate to time was very confusing (it could have been explained a little clearer, so readers wouldn’t waste many “clicks” going back and forward to refer to the terms used). But I think the true pain in my arse was Willa! She’s incredibly immature, entitled and bordering on narcissistic and schizophrenic tendencies. Seriously, I believe a shrink had been better for her than her friendship with the 5 Abcurse brothers! Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a strong female lead but I draw the line at whiny, self-centred, entitled and rude – which basically describes Willa right down to her bare ass, which she flaunts around often enough.
“It’s your own fault, Will. What did I tell you about walking?” “That I should leave it to the experts,”
― Jaymin Eve, Trickery
However, there was a few parts I did like *cough* the Abcurse brothers *cough* so I’ll definitely be giving the next one a go!
