My rating: ❤❤❤❤❤ of 5!
Even though, I’ve now read this book 3 times I’m still overwhelmed and struggle with what to write. This book is so overwhelmingly powerful. So many things happen, and we get to meet almost everyone and find out what their true last stand and motives are.
Percy is busy enjoying his being a semi normal person, doing semi normal things with his friend Rachel Elizabeth Dare, when Blackjack comes and ruin it all. Suddenly Percy has to leave and enter “fight” mode instantly.
Percy also finds time to have a chat with his dad, but even though Poseidon is busy with his own underwater fight, he instructs Percy to tell Chiron that it’s time for Percy to hear the great prophecy. (The Great Prophecy was a prediction made by the Oracle of Delphi that foretold the rise or fall of Olympus by a child of the Big Three).
A half-blood of the eldest
Shall reach sixteen against all odds
And see the world in endless sleep
The hero’s soul, cursed blade shall reap
A single choice shall end his days
Olympus to preserve or raze
Another proof of Rick Riordan’s cleverness is, that when Percy is reading this prophecy, his dyslexia creates a welcome tension relief, when he instead of “eldest gods” read “eldest dogs”. However, the relief is short lived when the seriousness of the situation dawns on Percy, and suddenly it all seems like it’s too much, and who can blame him? The Olympians chose to ignore him over and over again, when he warned them. So far Kronos hasn’t been at full power as he’s been living inside Luke, but now the Titan Lord is preparing to shed Luke’s body and instead form his own.
Like that’s not enough, Kronos has gathered an impressive army of fellow Titans, hell hounds and a lot of other mythical beasts. So even when the half-bloods gather all their allies, it doesn’t seem like it’s enough, until Nico discovers Luke’s secret and offers to help Percy even the playing field.
“It will make you powerful. But it will also make you weak. Your prowess in combat will be beyond any mortal’s, but your weaknesses, your failings will increase as well.”
“You mean I’ll have a bad heel?” I said. “Couldn’t I just, like, wear something besides sandals? No offense.”
Personally, I was over the moon with how everything played out and, Rick certainly managed to answer all the questions I had, hell, he even went above and beyond by even answering the ones I didn’t even know I had questioned.
With this being the very last instalment in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, I loved seeing how much everyone has grown. The half-bloods may naturally inherit their godly parents squabbles, but when push comes to shove they prove to be more capable than most of the Olympians.
This was not only the perfect ending to this series, it was also the perfect beginning for the next one.
